Macclesfield Women Earn a Point Against Chester in Top-of-the-Table Clash

Macclesfield Women took part in an enthralling match in a 1-1 draw with Chester on Bonfire Night.

It was an evenly contested match throughout, with many counterattacks from one end of the field to another.

Macclesfield goalkeeper Emelie Borg made some fine saves during the half to help keep the Chester attack at bay.

In the second half, it was Alex Marrโ€™s side who took the lead on the hour mark, with a fabulous strike from Zoe Lam.

However, a minute later, Chester scored their equalizer. A quick break down the right-hand side led to a cross into the Macclesfield box which was slotted home by substitute Erin Sells.

5 minutes later, it was thought that Macclesfield had retaken the lead as the ball seemed to trickle past the goalkeeper into the corner of the net. However, the referee ruled the ball had not crossed over the line, leaving the Macclesfield players and bench fuming.

For the final quarter of the match, the game turned scrappy, with torrential downpours an additional factor, there were some late tackles and challenges โ€“ leaving the crowd for a firecracker of a finale.

However, neither side could convert any of their chances with both sides shooting wide of the goal.

Alex Marrโ€™s side will feel disappointed not to come away with three points, given that they controlled much of the game โ€“ especially in the first half.

Macclesfield remain top of the table with 13 points and will face AFC Crewe Women on Saturday at the Leasing.com Stadium.
